Job Description

A Network Engineer is responsible for designing, implementing, and maintaining an organization’s computer networks. They play a crucial role in ensuring the efficient and secure communication of data and information within the organization. Network engineers collaborate with cross-functional teams to assess network requirements, design network infrastructure, and troubleshoot network-related issues. They are knowledgeable about various networking technologies, protocols, and equipment.

Responsibilities:

  • Network Design and Implementation: Assess network requirements and design network solutions based on the organization’s needs. Install and configure networking equipment, including routers, switches, firewalls, and load balancers. Ensure the network infrastructure meets performance and security standards.
  • Network Maintenance and Troubleshooting: Monitor network performance and proactively identify and resolve network issues. Perform regular maintenance activities, such as firmware upgrades, patches, and backups. Troubleshoot and resolve network outages, connectivity problems, and performance bottlenecks.
  • Network Security: Implement and maintain network security measures to protect the organization’s data and systems. This includes implementing firewalls, intrusion detection systems, VPNs (Virtual Private Networks), and other security technologies. Stay updated with the latest security threats and vulnerabilities, and take appropriate measures to mitigate risks.
  • Network Documentation and Reporting: Maintain accurate and up-to-date network documentation, including network diagrams, configurations, and procedures. Generate regular reports on network performance, utilization, and security incidents. Provide recommendations for network improvements and optimizations.
  • Collaboration and Project Management: Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including system administrators, software developers, and IT support staff, to ensure seamless integration and operation of network infrastructure. Participate in projects related to network upgrades, expansions, and new implementations. Coordinate with vendors and service providers as needed.
  • Research and Professional Development: Stay informed about emerging networking technologies, industry trends, and best practices. Continuously enhance technical knowledge and skills through self-study, training programs, and certifications.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field (or equivalent experience).
  • Solid understanding of networking principles, protocols (TCP/IP, DHCP, DNS, etc.), and network architecture.
  • Proficiency in configuring and troubleshooting network equipment, such as routers, switches, firewalls, and load balancers.
  • Experience with network monitoring and management tools.
  • Knowledge of network security principles and best practices.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent communication and collaboration abilities.
  • Ability to work effectively both independently and within a team.
  • Relevant certifications, such as CCNA (Cisco Certified Network Associate) or CCNP (Cisco Certified Network Professional), are a plus.
Salary: £19,000 to 48,000 Per Year
