Position Overview:

The Tax Director is a senior-level position responsible for overseeing and managing all aspects of an organization’s tax compliance and strategy. They play a crucial role in ensuring compliance with tax laws and regulations while implementing tax planning strategies to optimize the organization’s tax position. The Tax Director works closely with internal stakeholders, external advisors, and government authorities to minimize tax risks and maximize tax efficiency.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Tax Strategy and Planning: Develop and implement tax strategies aligned with the organization’s overall goals and objectives. Identify opportunities for tax optimization, including tax credits, incentives, and deductions. Stay updated on changes in tax laws and regulations to ensure compliance and maximize tax benefits.
  • Tax Compliance: Oversee all tax compliance activities, including the preparation and filing of tax returns (corporate, partnership, individual, etc.). Ensure accurate and timely submission of tax filings in compliance with applicable laws and regulations. Review tax provisions and estimates for financial reporting purposes.
  • Tax Audits and Disputes: Manage tax audits and inquiries from tax authorities. Coordinate responses to inquiries, provide requested information, and resolve tax disputes. Collaborate with external advisors, such as tax attorneys or consultants, as necessary.
  • International Taxation: Manage international tax matters, including transfer pricing, foreign tax credits, and cross-border transactions. Stay updated on international tax laws and regulations to ensure compliance and mitigate tax risks associated with global operations.
  • Tax Risk Management: Identify and assess tax risks associated with the organization’s operations, transactions, and business initiatives. Develop and implement strategies to mitigate tax risks and ensure compliance with applicable tax laws.
  • Tax Accounting and Reporting: Collaborate with the finance team to ensure accurate tax accounting and reporting. Review tax-related journal entries, provisions, and disclosures for financial statements. Provide guidance on tax implications of new accounting standards or transactions.
  • Tax Policy and Internal Controls: Develop and implement tax policies, procedures, and internal controls to ensure compliance and effective tax governance. Monitor and assess the effectiveness of tax controls and make recommendations for improvements.
  • Stakeholder Management: Act as a trusted advisor on tax matters to senior management, board of directors, and other stakeholders. Provide tax-related insights and recommendations to support business decisions and initiatives. Communicate complex tax issues in a clear and concise manner.
  • Team Management: Lead and develop a team of tax professionals. Provide guidance, mentorship, and training to enhance their skills and knowledge. Foster a collaborative and high-performance work environment within the tax department.
  • Relationship Management: Build and maintain relationships with external tax advisors, auditors, government authorities, and other relevant stakeholders. Stay updated on industry trends and tax-related developments through professional networks and participation in conferences or seminars.

Qualifications and Skills:

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, or a related field is required. Advanced degree in taxation or relevant certification (e.g., Certified Public Accountant – CPA) is preferred.
  • Extensive experience in tax planning, compliance, and strategy, preferably in a leadership role within a corporate tax department or public accounting firm.
  • In-depth knowledge of tax laws, regulations, and accounting principles, including experience with complex tax issues (e.g., international taxation, mergers and acquisitions, transfer pricing).
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills to analyze tax implications and develop tax strategies.
  • Excellent understanding of financial statements and tax accounting principles.
  • Familiarity with tax software and technology tools for tax compliance and research (e.g., tax provision software, tax research databases).
  • Proven track record of managing tax audits and resolving tax disputes.
  • Strong leadership and team management skills.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to effectively interact with stakeholders at all levels.
  • Ability to work collaboratively and influence cross-functional teams.
  • High ethical standards and ability to handle confidential information with discretion.
Salary: £53,000 to 97,000 Per Year
