Job Description
The Tax & Technical Technician is a crucial role within an accounting firm, tax consultancy, or finance department of an organization. The technician provides support in tax compliance, technical research, and analysis, ensuring accurate and timely tax-related processes and delivering valuable insights to clients or internal stakeholders.
Responsibilities:
- Tax Compliance: Assist with tax compliance activities, including preparing and reviewing tax returns, computations, and supporting schedules for individuals, businesses, or organizations, ensuring compliance with applicable tax laws and regulations.
- Technical Research: Conduct in-depth research and analysis on complex tax issues, legislative changes, and regulations to provide accurate and up-to-date information and guidance to clients or internal teams.
- Tax Planning and Advisory: Collaborate with tax professionals to develop tax planning strategies for clients, including identifying potential tax savings opportunities, managing tax risks, and providing recommendations based on tax research and analysis.
- Data Analysis and Reporting: Analyze financial data, tax calculations, and reports to identify discrepancies, trends, and opportunities for improvement, and generate accurate and insightful reports for clients or internal stakeholders.
- Tax Legislation Monitoring: Stay updated with changes in tax laws, regulations, rulings, and court decisions, and assess their impact on clients’ tax positions and compliance obligations.
- Client Interaction: Interact with clients, responding to their tax-related queries, providing guidance, and explaining complex tax concepts in a clear and concise manner.
- Documentation and Record Keeping: Maintain accurate and organized tax files, documentation, and workpapers in compliance with professional standards and internal policies.
- Internal Collaboration: Collaborate with tax professionals, accountants, and other internal stakeholders to exchange information, address technical issues, and ensure the smooth flow of tax-related processes.
- Training and Knowledge Sharing: Stay updated with industry developments, attend relevant training sessions or seminars, and share knowledge and insights with the team to enhance overall technical expertise.
- Compliance and Quality Control: Adhere to professional standards, ethical guidelines, and quality control procedures to ensure accuracy, integrity, and compliance with regulatory requirements.
Qualifications:
- Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, taxation, or a related field.
- Strong knowledge of tax laws, regulations, and principles, including individual and corporate taxation.
- Proficiency in tax software, spreadsheet applications, and research tools.
- Detail-oriented with strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills to effectively convey technical concepts to clients and colleagues.
- Ability to manage multiple tasks and prioritize workload to meet deadlines.
- Familiarity with relevant tax legislation, such as local tax codes or international tax regulations, is advantageous.
- Professional certifications such as Enrolled Agent (EA) or Certified Tax Technician (CTT) are desirable.
- Prior experience in tax compliance, tax advisory, or a similar role is preferred.
